Where Beauty Meets Education
At the Academy of Hair Design and Beauty, we empower aspiring cosmetologists with quality instruction in hair, makeup, and nails, cultivating both artistry and skill.
In addition to learning in the classroom, you'll receive hands-on learning by providing beauty services to the public. From haircuts and coloring to perms, manicures, and pedicures, you'll have the opportunity to test your skills while under the supervision of an instructor.
Students are required to complete 1500 hours and pass state boards to become licensed as a Cosmetologist in Missouri.
The list below shows the areas of study mandated by the State Board of Cosmetology that must be successfully completed.
• Shampooing of all kinds
• Hair coloring, bleaches and rinses
• Hair cutting and shaping
• Permanent waving and relaxing
• Hairsetting, pin curls, fingerwaves
• Thermal curling
• Combouts and hair styling techniques
• Scalp treatments and scalp diseases
• Facials, eyebrows and arches
• Manicuring, hand and arm massage
• Treatment of nails
• Cosmetic chemistry
• Salesmanship and salon management
• Sanitation and sterilization
• Anatomy
• State law
The Academy adds other content and frequently provides guest speakers to aid students in preparing to succeed in the cosmetology industry.

I studied under Donna at this very school, graduated, became licensed by the Missouri State Board of Cosemetology and then started providing high quality services in the Kansas City area. It has been a true joy of mine to be able to utilize my artistic talents to provide top-notch beauty services to clients and build trust and long-lasting relationships.
Fast forward to today, I am now focusing my abilities on equipping the next generation for success – helping my students to become excellent stylists and build confidence in themselves to express their art.
